Our toilets were upgraded over the summer, so we need to pay our share of the cost of this upgrade and this will take at least two years of fundraising to pay off. We recently held a Friends of Guiding Quiz night – thank you to everyone who came along to support us. We raised £766.
We have also upgraded the Guiders’ Room using a grant from Tesco bags of help. We have new cabinets and now have a room which is suitable for use during meetings for groups of girls.
This term we have been working on the theme of plastic pollution and we made creatures out of plastic bottles. Girlguiding has a new annual week of action called Future Girl Acts and this year plastic pollution is the theme. We will be doing activities around how to influence people to make change.
We will be making our plastic promises – there are five, which are: •Using a Reusable water Bottle •Use an alternative to plastic cutlery •Use less cling film – use a box instead •Use a refillable coffee cup •Encourage girls to speak out about plastic pollution
Further events during the Autumn term have been holding a Macmillan Tea Party at Brownies on 1st October – which raised £97 – and holding a Halloween Disco and a Halloween themed evening. On 5th November we will be holding a District disco in aid of Macmillan.
We held an international evening just before half term, when Lexie and Jasmine gave an interesting talk about their trips to Thailand and Croatia with Girlguiding this summer. Fundraising has already begun for next summer’s amazing trip to Mexico with Dittons District Rangers
During the second half of the term we will be visiting Emberbrook Nursing home to provide Christmas Entertainment for the residents. Tuesday Brownies and Guides are planning to fill boxes on behalf of the Rotary Club for Christmas. We will also be holding a promise evening for the new Brownies.
3rd Hinchley Wood Guides are going to ‘Scoutabout’ next year with the other District Guide units.
