It was a warm and, fortunately, dry day on Saturday 18th May for the annual 1st Hinchley Wood Scout May Fair. Loads of fun was had in the games area, from Chuck-a-Duck to Nerf for Sweets. There were Plants, Books and Toys – all of which were browsed with interest. A tasty BBQ – delicious sausages and burgers, provided by our very local Butcher in the Wood – were consumed as fast as they were cooked. The Refreshments Tent sold many cups of Pimm’s and scrumptious homemade cakes. We were joined by St. Christopher’s Church and entertained by the Samba and Junior Jazz Bands from Hinchley Wood Secondary School, along with our much-loved tradition of Tug of War. A wonderful day was had by all.
A mammoth ‘thank you’ goes to all our amazing local sponsors and contributors for their donations to the Raffle and to all the Scouts and local friends and family who came down to support this event. Just over £2,000 was raised which was then more than doubled through corporate fund-matching. The older Scouts are enjoying their new canoes and the younger Cubs and Beavers are discussing what they would like from the fund-raising!
